These smart little loves are beginning potty training and they are doing
fantastic! They love praise and just to hear Josie clap and tell
them how wonderful they are when they potty outside motivates them!
It is amazing how fast they learn. I was working with them on the
"come" command and the "sit" command with treats this
week, and they are responding amazingly fast. Forest and Shadow are
now coming to me on command and they are sitting very well too! They
love to hear me clap for them and use my very happy excited voice when
they follow their commands. Their little tails don't stop wagging
and they just love exploring the backyard with Tessa on their potty
breaks. Frequently asked questions... What is better a male dog or a female dog? The answer...if you have them neutered or spayed...both. I have heard it said that female dogs "love you", but male dogs are "in love with you". From my experience owning both males and females I have found this to be true. My male dog Tucker was never more than a foot away and if I sat down he was touching me. When I sit down, the little stud I used for Tessa named Toby jumps right in my lap. My female dogs follow me around the house but they don't need to feel my body warmth. Males like to stay close and are very affectionate. With the kids...both male and female are great. Do male dogs hump? Not so much if they are neutered, but females can hump too and this can be easily trained out of both. Do male dogs mark? If you have them neutered between 5 and 6 months of age this usually extinguishes this behavior. Do male dogs lift their legs? Leg lifting is a learned behavior, I had a female dog named Tiki who lifted her leg outside. A male dog will lean forward and squat like a female dog unless he is exposed to other male dogs that lift their leg in his presence. Do female dogs have a messy period? Not if you have them spayed between 5 and 6 months of age. Does dog urine turn your grass yellow? I have marathon sod, the long fescue type, my dogs go on it, and my grass is green year round as long as it is watered frequently. This type of sod seems to do very well with pets. |

Tessa is a CCA Five Star Rated Dam. She is a Standard Sized First Generation CCA American Cockapoo who is AKC provable, CERF certified annually and found to be free of genetic eye disease, and OFA certified to be free of genetic patellar luxation. Tessa stands 21 1/2 inches from the floor to the base of her shoulder blades and 21 1/2 inches from the base of her collar to the base of her tail. She is one of the largest Cockapoos I have seen.
You may have seen Tessa's puppy pictures before on the web. She was bred by Rhonda Carlson and Tessa's dam, Bridget, an AKC Standard Poodle, is owned by Rhonda's sister Krissy Cooper. Both are CCA Four Star Rated Breeders which means that both of Tessa's parents are AKC registered and currently CERF'ed annually and OFA certified. The sire I used for this litter "Toby Clause Anderson" is a first generation CCA American Cockapoo who is AKC provable, CERF certified annually and OFA certified to be free of genetic patellar luxation. He is the same stud we used for Tianna's second litter because his puppies were so beautiful!

Tessa lets Monica dress her up. She truly loves it although...she doesn't show it here. Grin! |
Tessa loves to hug. Here she is with owner Josie Montanari. As you can see she is a Standard Size CCA American Cockapoo. |
Tessa is three years old and this is her first litter. Tessa is a beautiful, lively, happy, affectionate, Cockapoo that loves to hug. She is our 10 year old daughter Monica's best friend. Tessa waits on the back of the loveseat in our living room for Monica to come home from school. Tessa can't wait for Monica to play with her. She loves to run in the back yard and play while Monica swings, and she even lets Monica dress her up. Tessa sleeps in Monica's room at night.
My brother Sonny and his wonderful wife Betty are a fantastic Uncle and Aunt to Tessa...and a great team. Sonny & Betty made Tessa a beautiful whelping box for her to give birth to her puppies in. The box he made is extremely functional and wonderfully made with love. Above you see Tessa waiting to whelp her first litter, and on the right she is loving Sonny thanking him for the awesome whelping box. Sonny & Betty are animal lovers too. It runs in the family. They own two Cockapoos themselves.
If you click on the photo of the whelping box the picture will enlarge. Notice the puppy rail made with PVC pipe. It has a space underneath to prevent Tess from accidentally crushing her pups against the wall of the box. The pups can escape under the rail. There is an acrylic door that slides in a slot in the front opening allowing Tessa easy access into and out of the whelping box while keeping the puppies safely inside and since the door is clear acrylic, I can see the puppies are safe from across the room in the kitchen. Sonny made the acrylic door in varying heights so the door can be taller as the puppies get bigger. He thought of everything. The whelping box is in our family room where the temperature is a constant 77 degrees the first two weeks of the puppies lives since they cannot regulate their body temperature yet. At night I move Tess and the puppies upstairs next to our bed so I can make sure they are safe and be a support for Tessa if she needs to go outside.
The Puppies Arrived!!!
The evening of May 4 and early May 5, 2004 Tessa's eight puppies came into the world. There are five girls and three boys. The colors of the girls are Chocolate, Buff, Silver Buff and two are solid beautiful black like their Mom & Dad. Two of the boys are solid black, and one is black with a white diamond on his chest, a white chin, and the tips of his back toes look like they were dipped in milk. The dam is Standard Sized 40 pounds, the sire is Mini sized 14 pounds. These puppies will be 25 to 40 pounds which is LARGE, not a lap dog (Please don't tell Tessa she is not a lap dog...she thinks she is. Grin!). If you are interested you may telephone for an interview to be on the waiting list for a future litter. The best time to reach me is 9am to 1pm (California Time, Pacific Standard Daylight Savings Time) Mon. through Fri. at 818-438-0887. If you miss me, leave a detailed message with your phone number and the best time to call, and I will call you back. Click on the photo to enlarge it then close the X to come back to this page. Tessa's puppies came into the world May 4-5, 2004. Josie begin charting Tessa's temperature 10 days before her due date which was May 1. Tessa's temperature dropped on May 3 which usually means puppies within 24 hours but Tess took about 36 hours. She really wanted to give birth in our turtle burrow in the back yard, and it took a lot of convincing by Josie that Uncle Sonny did NOT built that fancy new whelping box so she could have her precious pups in the dirt! I had to put Tessa on a leash every time she went outside to potty to keep her out of the turtle burrow. Tessa needed lots of walking when she was in labor. She had a lot of pressure with eight little ones taking up so much space. Finally, after the sun set May 4, we settled down in Tessa's whelping box. Since Tessa wouldn't stay in there by her self...Josie sat with her in the whelping box and gently massaged her back and belly convincing her to stay in the whelping box. We watched HGTV and waited and waited... and finally...
9:01pm on May 4 "Sunshine" (yellow satin ribbon) (now named Ruby) the largest black girl was born into Josie's waiting hands weighing in at a whopping 11 ounces. Black is our most favorite Cockapoo color so we were just ecstatic! Click on the photos to enlarge them, then close the window to come back to this page.

Precious, precious, precious!!! They are all so very precious! They are all healthy and able to maneuver to Mom to find their milk source. They are all nursing good. Josie, Monica (10 years) and Ryan (16 years) slept on the couches in the family room to share Tessa and the babies first night together. It is critical to make sure that all are able to latch on and that all the wee ones stay warmly snuggled together or snuggled to Mom for warmth. The thermostat gets turned up to 77 degrees and we pretend that we are in the Bahamas for two weeks until the pups can regulate their body temperature on their own.
Just for fun...we nick named all the puppies in this litter...when you decide on your precious puppy's name let me know, and we will start calling it by your given name immediately. Grin! My husband Garry videotaped the delivery. When you pick your puppy up we will make you a copy so you can see your puppy coming into the world! The black puppies have color coded satin ribbon collars so you can tell them apart in the photos.

Socializing the puppies is a full time job and a very important one at that. Our family is dedicated to loving up the puppies to get them used to being the perfect companion pet. It is important for them to be gently and appropriately handled by men, women, and gentle children, and exposed to other healthy & vaccinated pets so they learn to trust their world.
We thought it would be fun for you to watch the puppies grow with us. Below you will find their weekly weight chart. My scale only goes up to 5 pounds...so it gets a bit sketchy after 5 pounds unless the vet weighs them, so at their 6 week and 8 week shots I ask them to weigh them.

5 Weeks Old- The puppies are doing beautifully. They are so funny and are starting to show us their darling personalities. They are each so unique and are such individuals. They are playing, romping and learning to bark, growl, play bow then spin in circles with their tail straight up in the air, and BITE! OUCH!
Our puppies are sold with a spay/neuter contract (unless they are sold specifically for breeding, meet the breed standard, pass all their health certifications, are CERF'ed annually and OFA certified at one year of age, and are breed quality). All our puppies come with a one year guarantee that they will be free of life threatening genetic health defects or you can return your puppy for a replacement puppy, or a full refund of the purchase price. If your family suffers from allergies and you have an allergic reaction to your puppy you can return your puppy, for a replacement puppy from another litter, or a refund of the purchase price minus a handling fee.
